Salvage Yard Church of Jesus Christ | Minneapolis

Call 612-405-2002‬ for info on where we are meeting and what covid protocol will be in place.

We are a house church made up of quirky folks who love Jesus and want to see his Kingdom come in the world around us.

We believe God has called us to:

Rescue and Restore broken people for Jesus (because really, we’re all broken, aren’t we),
and
Release them into a lifetime of ministry.

Our name reflects this idea.  A salvage yard is a place where something that has broken down can be plucked out, fixed up, and given a new purpose.

We want to live out that new purpose together.  We have no interest in going to church for church’s sake or in existing unto ourselves.  We take seriously the biblical notion of the church being Christ’s body; and in order to step into that identity, we must be like Jesus in the world.  He came to serve, to heal, to deliver, to seek justice, and to build God’s beautiful Kingdom.

We have been a church for a long time, but we are currently in a time of transition and discernment, as we work to better understand how God would have us live out his mission for us.  If you are interested in being part of a missional community – a church that doesn’t just meet, but shares life and seeks to act out God’s will in the world – we might the place for you.

The following are eleven value statements that we try to live by:

1. We submit to Jesus as Lord and recognize the Bible as having authority in our lives.

2. We are all broken people who are being restored, and we value everyone who shows up.

3. We are all the staff of the Salvage Yard.  Our church does not reflect one person or a specific group of people. Rather, we are all various members of one body, of which Christ is the head.

4. We embrace the process.  We recognize that people growing in their gifts, group discussions, and group decision-making all take longer, but we see the value in people growing by doing and by witnessing decisions develop, rather than simply being told final results.

5. We have no formula for how to do church.  We can relax, because it’s not up to us to figure it out for ourselves but rather to rely on God’s leading.  Sometimes things look familiar, and sometimes they do not.

6. We live courageously.  We will not let fear, laziness, comfort, or boredom keep us from doing anything that God calls us to do as a church. A lack of courage shows a distorted understanding of God’s character.

7. We will call people to change, because it is impossible to submit to Christ and remain unchanged.  We also will not hold onto any forms of ministry if God is no longer in them. There is a season for everything, and change is a sign of life.

8. We choose holiness, and we will not cut corners.  We choose to be ruthless in our personal battles with sin and even with the good things that keep us from God’s best.

9. We choose to be humble, and we will work against negative comments or attitudes toward the rest of the body of Christ.  We are one part of that body and are grateful for those who have gone before us and walk alongside us.

10. We are committed to being transparent with God and each other. We refuse to put on a show in our worship, our preaching, or our community life.

11. We are all created for relationships.  We recognize the need for other people in our personal relationships with Jesus.  It’s not just “me and God.”
